Study Title:

Regenerative peripheral nerve interfaces (RPNIs) to enhance function and sensation in people with transfemoral amputation

Study Location:

Research Objectives:

This study will assess the ability of implanted electrodes in the amputated limb to record muscle activity during a 1-year period and whether sending small electrical pulses provides any sensation. The goal of this study is to improve the control of prosthetic legs using the recorded muscle activity.

Eligibility Criteria:

Are 18-75 years old

Had an amputation of one leg above the knee at least 6 months prior to enrollment

Agree to not use tobacco for the duration of the study

K-level of at least K-3

Have space below your amputated limb to fit the Open Source Leg without needing shoe lifts on the contralateral limb

If you do not have existing muscle grafts at the time of enrollment, your residual limb must also have sufficient soft tissue quality to support performance of the operative procedures

Compensation Details:

Participants will receive $40/hour

Time Commitment:

There will be initial visits to determine eligibility, expecting to last up to 5 hours. Once enrolled and consented, you will be asked to visit the lab at least once every 3 months, each visit lasting approximately 4 hours for 1 year.
