Study Title:

Prosthetic Service Deserts Across the United States for Individuals with Amputation

Study Location:

Zoom/Phone Interview

Research Objectives:

The primary research question is to identify areas of prosthetic service deserts. We hypothesize that areas far from prosthetic schools as well as those with greatest density of diabetes will have areas that are underserved by prosthetic services.

This research aims to fill an existing gap in the literature, between those two findings, by interviewing individuals to better understand their barriers and facilitators to receiving prosthetic service. We will purposively represent individuals with amputation that receive care in high- and low-accessibility to prosthetic service areas and across

demographic categories. This will allow us to make inferences about the wider population and in the future study interventions that will hopefully address the modifiable barriers and support the facilitators we find to individuals receiving the care that they need.

Eligibility Criteria:

The population will include English speaking adults with lower limb amputation.

Compensation Details:

Incentives/Compensation: We are offering an honorarium of $20.00 to complete this informed consent, the interview, and the follow-up survey. If you leave the study without completing these three steps, you will not receive the honorarium.

Enrollment Closes:

Jun 30, 2026

Time Commitment:

If you volunteer, you will be asked to complete an interview using Zoom, or phone if needed, that will last less than 60 minutes. In addition, we have an online survey that will take you less than 25 minutes to complete.
