Frequently Asked Questions
How to Call Your Congress Member
We know that calling your congressional members can feel like a big step, so we’ve prepared a how-to video that shows you the process and even includes some sample verbiage. Click the video to watch Shree Thaker, Director of Communications and Partnerships, call her Senator.
What to do if no one answered my call or it went to voicemail?
- Leave a voicemail if you’re able to
- Call back after a few minutes to try again
- Join the open forum Zoom webinar to speak with an Amputee Coalition staff member for live assistance between 12-2 PM ET
- Email advocacy@amputee-coalition.org for assistance
Should I call multiple times?
Calling each office daily until you speak with a human is acceptable, but after you’ve used the prompt to speak with a Congressional staffer in each office, additional calls are not helpful.
Can my family and friends call?
Yes, encourage all your family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors from across the country to use the prompt and links to call their members of Congress. This is the best way to support the limb loss and limb difference community.
Who can call and take action?
Anyone and everyone! Any person who has had an amputation or has limb difference, or is a caregiver, friend, family member, or neighbor of a person who has limb loss or limb difference can call their members of Congress in support of saving and funding the Limb Loss Resource Center in FY26. Prosthetists, Orthotists, O&P researchers, physical and occupational therapists, and medical providers are also powerful voices in advocating for saving and funding the LLRC in FY26.
Is the Presidential Budget from May 30 the same as the “Big Beautiful Bill"?
“The Big Beautiful Bill” is the nickname for H.R. 1, also known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which is a budget reconciliation bill that Congress uses to enact tax, spending limit, and debt ceiling legislation.
The Big Beautiful Bill is separate from the 12 appropriations bills that have to pass each year to fund the federal government. The Limb Loss Resource Center is funded as a line item in the LHHS bill.
The Presidential Budget (released May 30, 2025) covers the 12 appropriations bills, so it is separate from the Big Beautiful Bill.
