Study Title:
Psychosocial impacts of accessing peer mentoring programmes for individuals with limb loss: a qualitative study
Study Location:
International (online)
Research Objectives:
This research project has the overarching objective of exploring the psychosocial impacts of accessing peer mentoring for individuals with limb loss.
There is a lack of published research evidence on peer support following amputation. This research aims to understand experiences of accessing 1:1 peer mentoring programmes for people with limb loss, with a focus on the psychosocial impacts (including understanding what was beneficial about accessing peer mentoring, what could be improved, and the impacts of accessing peer mentoring on psychological wellbeing).
Through understanding more about experiences of accessing 1:1 peer mentoring support, this research will contribute to the evidence base and help improve peer mentoring in the future.
Eligibility Criteria:
You are eligible to take part in the study if you meet the following criteria:
– Aged 18 or over
– Experienced limb loss in adulthood
– At least six months since limb loss
– Accessed 1:1 peer mentoring after limb loss
– English language fluency
Unfortunately, you are not eligible to take part if either of the following applies to you:
– Currently receiving professional support for mental health difficulties
– Diagnosed with, or accessing healthcare for, a cognitive impairment
Compensation Details:
Although there are no financial incentives for taking part, we hope that you would enjoy sharing your experiences, and we can share a summary of results with you once the study finishes.
Enrollment Closes:
Nov 1, 2026
Time Commitment:
Taking part will involve a research interview with me (Cat Linney) to talk about your experiences. The interview will be on Microsoft Teams and last around 45-60 minutes

How to Participate:
My name is Cat Linney and I am a Trainee Clinical Psychologist, currently completing a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Lancaster University (in the UK).
If you have accessed a 1:1 peer mentoring programme, I am interested in hearing your story and understanding your experiences. Peer mentoring means having support from someone else that has also had an amputation, and peer mentoring is typically arranged through a charity or an organisation.
