Amputee Coalition therefore does not maintain a list of lawyers specializing in disability-related cases. The following Internet search engines can help you find lawyers near you who deal with Social Security Disability or similar issues. You can then contact these professionals to ask about their experience and specialties.

American Bar Association

The American Bar Association (ABA) has a Lawyer Locator service on their Website.

  • Enter your state, and your city or county to narrow the search.
  • Enter “Social Security Disability” in the “OR Enter Other” box under “Areas of Practice.”

Many state or local bar associations have similar lawyer referral services. The ABA has a second option to help you find these. abanet.org/legalservices/findlegalhelp/home.cfm

  • Select your state.
  • On the page for your state, select “Lawyer Referral.”
  • Select the program serving your county (if any).
  • The state pages also have links to free or low-cost legal-aid programs.
