The Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center offers a comprehensive, team approach to care. Individualized programs for patients can include physical, occupational, and recreational therapy, behavioral medicine and speech-language therapy. Therapists work with physiatrists to implement plans of care that help patients return to a normal lifestyle as quickly as possible. Rehabilitation nurses collaborate with specialists to teach self-care techniques and provide education to help patients reach optimal functionality. Today, Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center has 73 beds and serves nearly 1,000 inpatients annually. It is one of the largest inpatient rehabilitation centers within an acute care hospital in the country. The center has touched the lives of thousands of patients and families from around the nation, accumulating nearly 30,000 patient success stories over the years.
The Amputee Rehabilitation Program at PNRC focuses on pain management following amputation, pre-prosthetic limb care, skin and residual limb care, phantom pain/phantom limb sensation, positioning needs, home exercises and coping with limb loss. Upon completion of inpatient rehabilitation, patients may transition to one of our outpatient centers which continues patient education along with prosthetic training when appropriate. The therapists in our outpatient centers have developed working relationships with many of the prosthetist currently in our area. Patients are provided with information regarding community resources such as the Amputation Coalition of America, Patricia Neal Innovative Recreation Cooperative (IRC), and Patricia Neal’s Support Group A.S.K. (Amputee Support of Knoxville).
