The Amputee Coalition Advocacy and Leadership Scholarship Program will annually offer scholarships to outstanding individuals living with limb loss or limb difference within the United States. Scholarship funds aid recipients in continuing their advocacy and leadership work within the limb loss and limb difference community. Recipients will be selected based on their successful advocacy work, demonstrating their leadership within the community, ongoing commitment to community involvement, and financial need. The Advocacy and Leadership Scholarship Program’s primary focus is to support individuals in underserved areas to achieve their advocacy and leadership goals through scholarships.

Eligibility & Requirements
To be eligible, you must be:
- An Advocate or Certified Lead Advocate with the Amputee Coalition. For more information on becoming an Advocate or Certified Lead Advocate, visit our Advocacy Volunteer page.
- Living with limb loss or limb difference
- An emergent leader in the limb loss and limb difference community or the disability community
- Over 18 at the time of application submission
- A U.S. resident or citizen
Scholarship Opportunity Open
The scholarship is open for applications all year.
Deadline
Applications for this scholarship to attend the Amputee Coalition National Conference must be received by 11:59 p.m. on June 1. Applications for attending an advocacy related event must be received at least 60 days before the event occurs.
Scholarship Announcement
Scholarships will be announced with a confirmation letter outlining the scholarship details. For the Amputee Coalition National Conference, recipients will receive confirmation by June 30. Scholarship announcements for advocacy-related events will be announced at least 30 days before the event occurs.
How are Scholarship Winners Selected?
Recipients are selected based on the following:
- An essay (50,000 character limit) highlighting how the scholarship will help your advocacy and leadership journey, including any diversity, equity, and inclusion work and how your journey aligns with advancing issues that impact the limb loss and limb difference community
- Two advocacy and leadership references from fellow Amputee Coalition Advocates or Certified Lead Advocates, and/or leaders in your community
- Proof of financial need

What Does the Scholarship Cover?
The scholarship award reimburses recipients for their travel costs to the Amputee Coalition National Conference for the year in which they apply or an advocacy related event. Receiving the Advocacy and Leadership Scholarship Program in 2024 means you will receive the scholarship for attending the 2024 Amputee Coalition National Conference. The scholarship award is not transferable and does not apply to next year’s conference. Advocacy-related events include hill days, policy forums, or national advocacy educational opportunities.
Travel costs include airfare, mileage, ground transportation, and hotel. For mileage reimbursement, starting location and final destination addresses must be provided.
What is the Amount of the Scholarship?
The scholarship award is $1,000 (maximum).
How Many Scholarships Can One Person Receive?
Individuals can receive a one-time maximum $1,000 scholarship.
What’s Required after Receiving an Amputee Coalition Advocacy and Leadership Scholarship Program?
- A copy of travel receipts (airfare, mileage, ground transportation, and hotel) for attending the Amputee Coalition’s National Conference or an advocacy-related event
- A brief thank you letter to Amputee Coalition, c/o the Advocacy and Leadership Scholarship Program, outlining how the scholarship helped you with your advocacy and leadership work and what’s next for your advocacy and leadership work
- Photos of attending the Amputee Coalition’s National Conference or an advocacy-related event
- This is not a renewable scholarship opportunity
