HEALTH CARE REFORM: Call your members of Congress and insist that prosthetic devices are included in healthcare reform!

Home

True healthcare reform must include a specific category that provides a full complement of durable medical equipment (such as wheelchairs), prosthetics, orthotics (DMEPOS) and other assistive devices. This is essential care to ensure that people with limb loss are contributing members of society instead of dependent on it.

Status

    • The Affordable Health Choices Act now includes coverage of rehabilitation and habilitation “devices” as well as services in the essential benefits package.  This statutory language establishes coverage for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) which are critical to people with limb loss.

    • I am very pleased that the current version of the House Education and Labor healthcare reform legislation includes language ensuring access to durable medical equipment, orthotics and prosthetics.

We need your help to ensure that the final versions of the House and Senate bills provides these important coverage standards.

TAKE ACTION!  Please call or write your representative and senator today and let them know that you expect healthcare reform to provide adequate coverage for all Americans, including people with limb loss!

Call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202)224-3121 and ask for your senators' and/or representative's office.

Message:  Please, include specific language around durable medical equipment such as prosthetic devices in the health care reform bill.  Help amputees remain employed, independent and productive!
