On Monday, April 28th, Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ) and Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL) sent out a “Dear Colleague” letter to the entire U.S. House of Representatives asking them to support the federal Prosthetic Parity Act (HR 5615). This was an exciting addition to the week of action! Click here to read their letter.
The bill was authored by Representative Robert Andrews (D-NJ). The lead sponsors were Representatives George Miller (D-CA), Todd Platts (R-PA), Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), and Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL).
Since then Representatives Maxine Waters (D-CA), Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), Bruce Braley (D-IA), Andre Carson (D-IN), Peter T. King (R-NY), Bob Filner (D-CA), Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) have all agreed to co-sponsor the Prosthetic Parity Act of 2008.
In the past few weeks we have doubled the number of co-sponsors.
We need your help to confirm your representative as a sponsor of this important legislation!
TAKE ACTION! Contact your member of Congress TODAY! Click here to find the information for your Congressperson. We have included a sample phone message and sample e-mail/letter. Please, take action today!
Take just 10 minutes and make a call and/or send an e-mail!
SAMPLE PHONE MESSAGE: Hello. My name is ____. I reside in ____. I am calling regarding House Resolution 5615, a bill ensuring appropriate coverage for prosthetic care. A “Dear Colleague” letter was recently distributed by Rep. Andrews and Rep. Balart asking for support of this important legislation. I am asking Representative ____ to please sign on in support of HR 5615.
SAMPLE LETTER
Dear Representative ______,
I am writing in regards to regarding House Resolution 5615. This bill requires that health insurance plans cover prosthetic care on par with other basic medical services. This enables individuals to remain employed, productive members of society. It also avoids the complications that result when someone is forced into a wheelchair or onto crutches for an extended period of time.
On Monday, April 28th, Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ) and Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL) distributed a “Dear Colleague” letter asking for support of this important legislation. Since then, Representatives Bruce Braley (D-IA), Andre Carson (D-IN), Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), Peter T. King (R-NY) and Maxine Waters (D-CA) have all agreed to co-sponsor the Prosthetic Parity Act of 2008.
I hope that you will sign onto this bill not only because it is the right thing to do, but also because it is a smart policy decision. Reports on the cost of prosthetic parity have been done in CO, CA, TX, ME, MA, NJ, and VA. The studies found that the impact on monthly premiums would be very low --- between $0.12 and $0.25 per month. Additionally, there would be a savings in both the private and public sectors as a result of provision.
This bill will make certain that insured, working people can continue supporting their families. I am urging you to please support this important legislation.
If you would like to be added as a cosponsor of HR 5615, please have your staff contact either Carlos Fenwick (Robert Andrews) at carlos.fenwick@mail.house.gov or Towner French (Lincoln Diaz-Balart) at towner.french@mail.house.gov.
Sincerely,
NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE |
