Since 2000, Athletes Helping Athletes has provided hand cycles to children with disabilities. Physical fitness and activity play an important role in helping increase self-esteem and reducing secondary complications such as diabetes and obesity. However, at $1,600-$3,000, hand cycles are expensive for individuals to purchase on their own, and are rarely covered by insurance. Athletes Helping Athletes provides families with cycling equipment to allow their child to participate in outdoor recreation.
