SideStep: A Guide to Preventing and Managing Diabetes and Its Complications

The Amputee Coalition of America is excited to announce the publication of SideStep: A Guide to Preventing and Managing Diabetes and Its Complications. ACA is happy to offer you one free copy of this important new publication if you send us your request no later than June 1, 2007.

Nearly 21 million children and adults in the U.S. live with diabetes and another 54 million are considered to be pre-diabetic. In 2002 alone, diabetes cost our country $92 billion in direct medical costs. While diabetes can be one of the most invasive diseases, it can also be manageable. SideStep provides practical information on how to avoid and control the disease. Whether you have been diagnosed with diabetes, are at risk for the disease, have suffered a complication of diabetes or care for someone with diabetes, SideStep is an important resource for you. Inside its pages, you’ll learn:

  • What diabetes is and how the various types differ
  • The risk factors for diabetes and how to avoid developing the disease
  • The ABCs of managing your diabetes
  • How to reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications, including heart and kidney disease; blindness; nerve damage; and foot problems that can lead to amputation
  • Helpful information about living well with diabetes-related complications.

To request your free copy, call 888/267-5669 or e-mail your name and shipping address to membership@amputee-coalition.org by June 1. After June 1, SideStep will be available through ACA for a shipping and handling charge of $10 per copy, $50 for 10 copies or $75 for 50 copies.
