Home

House Bill 318 was introduced in March.  It was referred to the Insurance Committee.  They passed it out of committee.  Unfortunately, it includes a $50,000 per limb financial cap.

TAKE ACTION TODAY!  Contact your house member today.  Ask them to push for the removal of the financial cap and urge them to support prosthetic parity.

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Representative ____,

I am writing in regards to HB 318.  This legislation is smart policy for the state of Louisiana.  HB 318 offers the opportunity to save money in both the public and private sector by providing appropriate care for amputees. This enables individuals to remain employed, productive members of society. It also avoids the complications that result when someone is forced into a wheelchair or onto crutches for an extended period of time.

Currently, the bill includes a financial cap.  I am concerned about the inclusion of this provision.  There is nothing in the bill providing for the shifting cost of living.  Once passed, a law remains on the books.  This must be taken into consideration in order to create true access to prosthetic care.  Please, push for the removal of the financial cap.

Several reports have been done on the cost of prosthetic parity bills.  They have found that the impact on monthly premiums would be very low --- between $0.12 and $0.25 per month. Additionally, there would be a savings in both the private and public sectors as a result of provision.  This is not only common sense, but also the right thing to do.

This bill will make certain that insured, working people can continue supporting their families.  I am urging you to please support this bill when it comes before the House.

Sincerely,

NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE
