SAMPLE PHONE MESSAGE: Hello. My name is ____. I reside in ____. I am calling regarding House Bill 318, a bill creating a consistent standard of care for prosthetic coverage.  This is an important bill for amputees in Louisiana. I urge Senator ____ to support this bill when it comes up for a floor vote.

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Senator ____,

I am writing in regards to regarding House Bill 318. This legislation is smart policy for the state of Louisiana. HB 318 creates a consistent standard of coverage for prosthetic care under private insurance.  This would help with the extremely restrictive financial caps and exemptions that are currently being imposed in many health plans.

HB 318 enables individuals to remain employed, productive members of society. It also avoids the complications that result when someone is forced into a wheelchair or onto crutches for an extended period of time.

This bill will ensure that the tragedy of a child losing a limb is not compounded by forcing that child to spend the rest of their childhood in a wheelchair when help is readily available.

Several reports have been done on the cost of prosthetic parity bills. They have found that the impact on monthly premiums would be very low --- between $0.12 and $0.25 per month. Additionally, there would be a savings in both the private and public sectors as a result of provision. This is not only common sense, but also the right thing to do.

I am urging you to please support this bill when it comes up for a floor vote.

Sincerely,

NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE
