WE DO NOT THINK WE HAVE THE VOTES RIGHT NOW TO PASS HB 318 OUT OF THE SENATE and our opponents are working really hard to keep this important bill.  We need you to take action today to make sure that Louisiana becomes the next state to pass parity legislation into law!

House Bill 318 passed out of the House and made it out of the Senate Insurance Committee on May 14th.  Now it is headed to the Senate floor.  This is a big deal!  We need your help to make sure it passes!

This bill creates a consistent standard of coverage for prosthetic care under private insurance.  This would help with the extremely restrictive financial caps and exemptions that are being imposed on many health plans.

There has been some really great press coverage on this bill, including a well written article regarding the strong evidence behind this bill.  Check it out.  We need your help to keep the momentum up and PASS THIS BILL!

TAKE ACTION! We are so close to making Louisiana the 11th state to enact a parity law.  Contact your senator TODAY! The bill is headed to the Senate floor.  They need to hear from supporters like you!

SAMPLE PHONE MESSAGE: Hello. My name is ____. I reside in ____. I am calling regarding House Bill 318, a bill creating a consistent standard of care for prosthetic coverage.  This is an important bill for amputees in Louisiana. I urge Senator ____ to support this bill when it comes up for a floor vote.

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Senator ____,

I am writing in regards to regarding House Bill 318. Right now, many amputees in Louisiana are unable to get the prosthetic care they need due to unfair and short sighted insurance practices.  HB 318 creates a consistent standard of coverage for prosthetic care under private insurance.

If amputees are prevented from accessing the care they need to be productive members of society, this increases state Medicaid costs due to complications such as flexion contractures, skin breakdown, osteoporosis, muscle loss, and depression, along with costs associated with nursing home and/or home care. The subsequent cost to the healthcare system far exceeds that of providing prosthetic care, while the lack of productivity places a huge burden on society.

The provision of prosthetic services should be viewed as restorative. Other states have found that curtailing or eliminating these vital services have actually cost them more money in the long run. Prosthetic coverage laws return people to work and save money for the states passing it.

This is not only common sense policy.  It is also the right thing to do.  I am urging you to please support this bill when it comes up for a floor vote.

Sincerely,

NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE

PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A PHONE CALL AND SENDING AN E-MAIL.  IT IS JUST AN EXTRA FEW MINUTES, BUT IT WILL MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE!!
