Beautiful views are everywhere in the western U.S., and the three Amputees Across America (AAA) riders have enjoyed them every day as they’ve journeyed from Tustin, California, to Canon City, Colorado.

After 19 days on the road, the riders have stopped at nine facilities in four states and have visited with over 1,300 people who have come out to welcome them at visitations.  These visits are really the heart of the AAA’s purpose — to help amputees and others struggling to regain their mobility and functionality see that it can be done.  The riders typically spend several hours at each visitation, signing posters, speaking to the crowd, talking one-on-one with amputees and patients, and having a great time.

After traveling nonstop since June 5, the riders will take a few days of R&R in Canon City, Colorado.  The next part of the journey takes the riders into Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.  Visitations are scheduled in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Wichita, Kansas, and Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano and Dallas, Texas.

Hello, West Coast!  With the Pacific Ocean behind them, the three 2006 AAA riders begin their journey.  It will be the end of July when they reach the Atlantic Ocean along the Florida coast. From the Arizona highway, the riders see plenty of nature’s beauty. The beautiful views and the wonderful facility visitations make the long rides in triple-digit temperatures all worthwhile. Have your cake and eat it too?  How about having your picture on your cake? Even better!  The visitation at Albuquerque delighted everyone with a cake custom-decorated just for the AAA riders! At every visitation, the riders spend time visiting with patients, visitors and staff, and signing posters.  The 2006 posters encourage folks to dream, believe and achieve.
