Amputee Coalition of America will play host to over 700 amputees, their family and caregivers at its Annual Conference and Exposition, June 15-17, 2006 at the Sheraton Bloomington Hotel.  This meeting provides education and peer support and an exhibit hall packed with information on the latest in technology and services for people with limb loss.

 

ACA’s Educational events focus on emotional support, fitness and healthful living for amputees and those at risk for amputation, including those with diabetes or vascular disease.  Notable attendees, guests and speakers include:

 

·        Wounded Warriors – This organization provides a better quality of life to U.S. military that were wounded or injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Members will be in attendance at the ACA Annual Educational Conference.

 

·        Achilles Track Club –In partnership with the ACA Annual Educational Conference, Achilles will host the Minneapolis debut of its Hope & Possibility 5K Run/Walk.  Join ACA’s CEO/President Paddy Rossbach, Melissa Stockwell, the first female amputee back from Iraq, Trisha Meili, the “Central Park Jogger,” and conference attendees and others on June 17th in Bloomington’s Hyland Park.  The Mayor of Bloomington along with the Fire and Police Departments will be on hand to help and participate in this event.

 

·        Department Homeland Security (DHS) - Sandra Cammaroto, Director, Office of Screening Persons with Disabilities Program at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will give a TSA update on Friday, June 16 at 8 a.m.  TSA will also test the CastScope at the ACA conference.  This portable body scanner may be used to enhance security screening for passengers with prosthesis, support braces and casts.

 

·        Johns Hopkins University researchers Stephen Wegener, Ph.D. and Patti Ephraim, MPH will present an update on their research done in partnership with the ACA and ACA member support groups, Promoting Amputee Life Skills (PALS).
